Concentrations and Characteristics of Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) in Marine Zooplankton from the Gaoping Waters of Southwestern Taiwan

چکیده

Bioaccumulation by zooplankton is the outset for persistent organic pollutants that enter marine food chain. Owing to a full spectrum of anthropogenic activities, Gaoping waters southwestern Taiwan are exposed large quantities polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). However, information on these contaminants in this study area lacking. In study, we analyzed 19 PBDE congeners concentrations 36 samples from waters. A high variation total (from not detected 1415 ng g?1 dry weight) was found, with highest levels being recorded near entrance Kaohsiung Harbor (KH). Significantly higher were noted KH transect than River estuary (GR) and Fengshan Township (FS) transects, indicating inputs originate ocean sewage outfalls. BDE-15 (43%) BDE-209 (16%) predominant zooplankton. Our results suggest activities might predominantly contribute significantly concentrations. The traditional web may easily transport PBDEs trophic organisms, since serve as essential nursery spawning grounds invertebrates fishes.

Geographical distribution of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and organochlorines in small cetaceans from Asian waters.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are one of the flame retardants widely used in plastics, textiles, electronic appliances, and electrical household appliances. In this study, PBDEs and organochlorine compounds (OCs) were determined in the archived samples from the Environmental Specimen Bank for Global Monitoring (es-BANK) at Ehime University. The blubber of cetaceans found stranded along...

The environmental fate of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in western Taiwan and coastal waters: evaluation with a fugacity-based model

The environmental fate of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), a group of flame retardants that are considered to be persistent organic pollutants (POPs), around the Zhuoshui River and Changhua County regions of Taiwan was assessed. An investigation into emissions, partitioning, and fate of selected PBDEs was conducted based on the equilibrium constant (EQC) fugacity model developed at Trent...

Concentrations of Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) in Water from Asunle Stream, Ile-Ife, Nigeria

This study assessed the concentrations of polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) in stream water obtained from Asunle stream, an adjoining stream of the Obafemi Awolowo University dumpsite. Water samples were collected for a period of eight months from six different locations comprising of a spot upstream in an uphill area relative to the refuse dumpsite and five others downstream along the stre...

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) over the open Indian Ocean

Atmospheric concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), a group of industrial chemicals widely used as flame retardants were measured over the Indian Ocean and represent the first comprehensive data of atmospheric contaminations of PBDEs over the open ocean. Air back trajectory analysis shows that PBDEs have great potential for long-range atmospheric transport to remote regions of...
